Compressed Air & Gas Filters »
Compressed Air & Gas Filters The HEF filters are the result of a major programme by MTA to study and develop new materials and technologies for improving the performance and reliability of the filtration process. In order to achieve these objectives, the engineers have made full use of MTA's computer-controlled test facilities, the instrumentation and methods of which are certified to the ISO 9001 standard.

Here, tests with compressed airflow rates of up to almost 80 m3/min (3000 cfm) at 7 bar g, can be performed at a full range of temperature and humidity values.

The Compressed Air Filters were tested in compliance with ISO international standards.

Type of Filters

Pre-Filter

Filter grade Air quality
Solid and liquid particle removal down to : Max. remaining oil content
P 3 micron

The compressed air flows through the filter element from the inside to the outside. It first meets a two-layer filter media (2). The first layer, made from glass microfibre, is laminated to a second layer of non-woven polyester fabric. The sheet is wrapped around an AISI 304 stainless steel cylinder (1). The individual solid particles are intercepted and stopped by the glass microfibre. Further layers of non-woven polyester (3) are wrapped around the filter material (2). A second cylinder in AISI 304 stainless steel (4) encloses and supports the filter media. Two plastic end caps (5) complete the filter element.

Coalescing Filter

Filter grade Air quality
Solid and liquid particle removal down to : Max. remaining oil content
M 1 micron 0.5 mg/m3
S 0.01 micron 0.01 mg/m3

The compressed air flows through the filter element from the inside to the outside. It first meets the two-layer filter material (2). The first layer, made from glass microfibre, is laminated to a second layer of non-woven polyester fabric. The sheet is wrapped around an AISI 304 stainless steel cylinder (1). The individual solid particles are intercepted and stopped by the glass microfibre. Further layers of non-woven polyester (3) are wrapped around the filter media (2). A second cylinder in AISI 304 stainless steel (4) encloses and supports the filter media.

The air-borne oil is filtered by exploiting the so-called "coalescing" effect. Depending on their size, the particles are blocked by the layers of microfibres (2) by direct interception, inertial impaction or Brownian motion, and group together to form larger droplets. These are pushed towards the outside and percolate by gravity down the open-cell polyurethane lining (6).

Activated Carbon Filter

Filter grade Air quality
A Oil vapour and odour Removal 0.003 mg/m3

The compressed air flows through the filter element from the inside to the outside. It first meets the two-layer filter material (2). The first layer, made from glass microfibre impregnated with particles of activated carbon, is laminated to a second layer of non-woven polyester fabric. This sheet is wrapped around an AISI 304 stainless steel cylinder (1). The oil vapour and odours are absorbed by the large quantity of activated carbon (one gram of carbon is equivalent to an absorbing surface of about 800 m2). Further layers of non-woven polyester (3) are wrapped around the filter material (2). A second cylinder in AISI 304 stainless steel (4) encloses and supports the filter media. Two plastic caps (5) complete the filter element.
